Washington State Woman Claims She Accidentally Shot 3 People in Car

An unnamed woman from Tacoma, Wash., told authorities that she accidentally shot three people inside of a car at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. She claimed that the gun unexpectedly went off in her hand, which led to the injuries.

According to Tacoma police spokeswoman Loretta Cool, the 25-year-old woman was in a car with a 25-year-old and a 30-year-old woman. The gun then unexpectedly discharged, somehow shooting all three people in a freak accident.

The shooter received an injury to her hand. One of the passengers was wounded in the stomach and the other received a grazing wound to the back. Their streak of bad luck ended there, however, because none of the injuries were life-threatening. The trio later received treatment for their injuries.

Police have investigated the crime, but so far they have neither confirmed nor refuted the shooter’s version of the story, and they are not looking for any suspects.

Cool added that the shooter could still face charges if the incident is determined to be accidental.

Clearly, something went wrong in that car. Whether the error was a simple mistake or a criminal negligence is yet to be determined.

Do you think that accidents like this one should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law? Or should authorities leave a little bit of wiggle room for law-abiding citizens who make unfortunate mistakes?
