A Washington state man with a history of violent rape is back behind bars following a citizen’s arrest Friday, the King County Sheriff’s Office said.
In a Friday afternoon tweet, the Sheriff’s Office said Demarcus Linwood had been arrested by a citizen in White Center, just south of Seattle earlier that same day, KCPQ News reports.
Police had been looking for the 24-year-old convicted rapist since Tuesday when a judge issued a warrant for his arrest.
Linwood had earlier pleaded guilty to failing to register as a sex offender but was released from custody so that he could attend a funeral, according to KCPQ. He never returned.
Police said the citizen who apprehended Linwood Sunday recognized him from information provided by the show “Washington’s Most Wanted.”
The show’s website indicates Linwood has been convicted of at least two rapes.
Investigators reportedly said they believed Linwood targeted young women he met on public transit, near bus stops or at local parks, although his first victim was an acquaintance.
Linwood has a criminal history that includes convictions of attempted robbery, criminal trespass, and multiple assault convictions as a juvenile and as an adult.
He is currently facing 43 months in prison for failing to register as a sex offender, as well as another 43 months for an additional count of the same charge to which he had previously pleaded guilty.
