A Washington, D.C. police officer is accused of taking photos of a 15-year-old girl after convincing her to remove her clothes as part of an investigation. The cop was arrested and charged with production of child pornography while on duty.
Officer Marc Washington, who has been with the Metropolitan Police Department since 2006, was arrested Monday, shortly after the victim's mother called police, authorities said, according to NBC Washington.
The officer reportedly first made contact with the family when the girl's mother called police to report her missing. Washington went to the family's home to take a missing persons report. The girl returned home Sunday afternoon, but later that night, Washington reportedly returned to the apartment and, after asking to speak to the girl privately, entered her bedroom and ordered her to remove her clothing, saying he needed to take photographs of any injuries she'd sustained while missing.
The girl said she wasn't injured, but Washington told her it was part of the procedure and she went along, according to documents.
Breitbart reports that after Washington left the residence, the girl told her mother, who called police. According to prosecutors, Washington saw the mother's 911 call to dispatch and tried to delete the photos, but was unsuccessful in getting rid of all the evidence. He was taken into custody and law enforcement officials discovered nude images of other young girls on his digital camera.
"We invest a great amount of time and effort to ensure that we are hiring the right people and we continue to proactively monitor integrity across the department," Police Chief Cathy Lanier stated. "But to learn of an allegation of this kind against a person who is sworn to protect our children, it is both shocking and disturbing. We are fortunate that someone came forward to alert us of this behavior to ensure that we prevent future victims."
