The hot show “Once Upon A Time” took a twist this week when a princess admitted to her love for another princess. The same princess previously had feelings for a prince, too.
The Huffington Post reports that the Disney-ABC series "Once Upon A Time" functions under the premise that classic icons from various fairy tales have been transported to a "real world" town and have lost all memories of their former lives due to a powerful curse.
During an episode of the show that aired on Sunday, Tinkerbell was supposed to be the main star, according to International Business Times. However, Mulan apparently took that role when it was shown that she almost confessed her love for Sleeping Beauty Princess Aurora.
Mulan reportedly attempted to tell Aurora of her feelings, but right before she could, Aurora told Mulan that she’s pregnant with Prince Phillip’s child. Mulan apparently had an interest in Phillip during the show’s last season.
Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, the co-creators of the series, had previously been asked about whether an LGBT character would be featured on the show and they had indicated that they were open to the idea.
"We are absolutely open to that, and for us, it's a matter of the right time and the right story. It's something we discuss and we're open to, it's just not something we've done yet," Kitsis had said during a “Once Upon a Time” panel at the 2013 ATX Festival in Austin, Texas, according to International Business Times.
The Huffington Post also notes that the episode took place after a recent GLAAD study that shows the decline in depictions of LGBT characters on TV over the past year.
