A young waitress in Florida got an unexpected, life-changing tip from a table of strangers.
Kari Vanardoy, a 22-year-old mother who works two jobs to support her son and boyfriend while looking for a new home, was reportedly serving the group of people at Wing House in Largo, Florida, when they began dropping hints about leaving a large tip. At one point, she even saw them talking to the manager, ABC Action News reported.
After giving the group their $29 bill, they left her $1,000 — an astonishing 3,500 percent tip.
“I had a lump in my throat,” Vanardoy told Bay News 9. “I didn’t know what to say and then I was like, ‘Oh my God, really guys?’"
The strangers informed her that the tip was meant for her and her 2-year-old son.
Vanardoy, who has worked at the restaurant for five years and also attends college, said she was completely taken aback by the gesture.
“I’m not used to having good luck like that,” she told ABC Action News. “I thought it was $10 at first because that would have been a nice tip on that tab. But really it was two extra zeros.”
The group told Vanardoy that they’d be back to visit her again, and one woman made an even more special pledge.
“She actually told me she was my guardian angel if I ever need anything,” Vanardoy said. “I didn’t do anything for them ever, so it was just a sweet act.”
According to Vanardoy, the tip couldn’t have come at a more perfect and necessary time.
“I used it for a down payment on a new place for me and my son and my boyfriend,” she told Bay News 9. “Thank you and God bless for helping out me and my little family. I am definitely going to pay it forward."
