A video of Mariah Carey doing a sound check prior to her New Year's Eve performance at Times Square has surfaced online, shortly after Dick Clark Productions accused the singer of not doing one (video below).
Mariah Carey's representatives have accused the producers of ABC’s “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest” of purposely sabotaging her performance "to get ratings," The New York Times reported.
“I will never know the truth, but I do know that we told them three times that her mic pack was not working and it was a disastrous production,” Carey’s manager, Stella B. Bulochnikov, told Us Weekly magazine. “I’m certainly not calling the F.B.I. to investigate. It is what it is: New Year’s Eve in Times Square. Mariah did them a favor. She was the biggest star there, and they did not have their sh** together."
According to TMZ, Mariah's earpiece was "choppy" and malfunctioning. DCP productions promised it would be fixed before she took the stage, but that never happened.
Mariah's team said there were too many coincidences at play on the night of the Grammy Award-winning singer's train wreck performance. They emailed an executive at DCP, saying, "This is sabotage," TMZ reported.
Dick Clark Productions told TMZ the "sabotage" claim was "silly."
“In very rare instances, there are of course technical errors that can occur with live television,” DCP said in a statement, adding that the company “had no involvement in the challenges associated with Ms. Carey’s New Year’s Eve performance.”
The company added that the idea that they “would ever intentionally compromise the success of any artist is defamatory, outrageous and frankly absurd.”
DCP also claimed Mariah was the one who decided not to do a sound check, saying she had a stand-in do it for her. They added that there were eight monitors on stage amplifying sound, so Mariah shouldn't have had a problem hearing.
But a video of Mariah doing a sound check has surfaced online. TMZ was told that the stand-in did the dance routine, but Mariah did the vocal work herself.
