A Texas police officer is being called a hero after rescuing a suicidal woman who was sitting on railroad tracks just seconds before a speeding train passed by.
Dramatic dashcam video released by the Richmond Police Department shows 27-year-old Officer Ramon Morales dragging the crying woman out of harm’s way just after 1 a.m. Sunday, The Blaze reports.
Seconds after pulling the woman from the tracks, the train is seen rushing past.
“The second he pulled up, the crossing arms of the train tracks started going down and without regard for his own life he immediately went into action,” Master Sgt. Lowell Neinast, a spokesman for the police department, told KTRK-TV.
Morales, a former Marine who has been with the Richmond Police Department for 10 months, had to keep the woman from running back toward the train, according to an update on the police department’s Facebook page.
Neinast called Morales and the person who flagged the officer down heroes.
“They took the time to save somebody’s life without even thinking about it,” Neinast said.
Following the incident, the unidentified woman was transported to Oak Bend Medical Center to be evaluated, according to KTRK.
