Horrific video footage catches the moment that a 14-year-old Florida boy gets run over by a city bus.
According to the video footage and witness accounts, Jerry Cunningham was running to catch a city bus when he reaches out his arm towards the door as it is closing. Cunningham gets his arm stuck and is then dragged under the bus as it pulls away from the stop. Cunningham sustained serious injuries in the accident and remains in a medically-induced coma at Broward Health Medical Center.
According to witnesses on the bus, they began shouting out at the driver Reinaldo Soto, 55, to stop as they watched Cunningham get dragged under.
Soto said he was unable to see the boy because of two passengers standing in the doorway. The Broward County Sheriff department is currently investigating the matter to see if the driver is at fault.
One of the riders told ABC 10 that she yelled for Soto to stop, but he just raised his hands a shrugged.
"I told the bus driver to stop and he wouldn't and the child fell under the bus," she told ABC 10. Soto has been a bus driver for over a decade and has a few minor incidents on his record, but none of which involved injuries.
The bus stopped son after he fell, however, and the video shows the driver and passengers running out to help him.
Cunningham suffered a couple fractures to his ribs, ankle and face, and is currently in critical condition, according to the Sun-Sentinel newspaper.
