Video Of Police Officer Shooting Unarmed Man Surfaces Day After Acquittal (Video)

Video of a Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, police officer fatally shooting an unarmed motorist (below) was released to the public the day after the officer involved was acquitted of murder charges.

In the shocking clip, motorist David Kassick is seen being hit with a taser and falling to the ground as Officer Lisa Mearkle screams at him to comply. Despite Kassick seemingly not putting up a fight, Mearkle continues to shock him with the taser.

While on the ground, Kassick rolls over onto his chest with his hands covered. In that moment, Mearkle delivers two fatal shots to the 59-year-old man.

The incident, which occurred in February, led to Mearkle being charged with third-degree murder. According to WFMZ, she was acquitted of all charges on Nov. 5.

“Hummelstown Borough thanks the jurors for their service in the criminal trial of Lisa Mearkle,” Hummelstown Borough said, reported WFMZ. "The verdict of not guilty was reached after presentation of evidence and extensive deliberation by twelve people who represent the conscience of the community. We extend our condolences once again to the family of David Kassick for his death and hope that the jury's verdict can begin the process of healing for all involved in this tragic incident."

The borough has yet to announce a decision in regard to Mearkle’s future with the police department.
