Video: Monkey Wearing Coat Runs Loose in Ikea Parking Lot

A Rhesus Macaque monkey wearing a coat and diapers was recently found in an Ikea parking lot in Toronto, Canada.

Toronto Police Sgt. Ed Dzingala told CBC: "The monkey’s owner put the monkey in a crate inside her car, but it managed to escape. It’s a smart monkey."

A woman who saw the monkey wandering around in the parking lot told the CBC: “It was the weirdest thing. I thought I was going insane. It seemed like it was screaming around for someone [it] new. It was sad."

The monkey is now with animal services and its owners have been charged with having a prohibited animal and were hit with a $240 fine.

Sgt. Ed Dzingala said that monkeys are prohibited as pets in Toronto, Canada, according to the city's municipal code.

The newly-created parody Twitter handle @IkeaMonkey has been tweeting statements such as “Please do not trivialize the plight of the urban primate community.”
