Besides the lives lost and homes destroyed, perhaps the biggest problem in New Jersey is the gas lines. WPIX-TV reports (video below) that 80% of gas stations in the New Jersey have closed, not because of lack of gas, but because of the power outage due to Hurricane Sandy.
Police have been deployed to manage the long lines at gas stations all along the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway. Some officers have reportedly even pulled their guns.
Tempers have flared more than once between drivers and walkers, usually because of people trying to cut in line.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is allowing gas stations to purchase gas from other states, which is normally not allowed.
