Video: Cop Tasers Girl, She's in Coma

A Florida police officer has been cleared of wrongdoing in the Tasering of a young woman who is now in a coma – an incident caught on dashboard cam.

The Daily Mail reports that last September Florida State Trooper Daniel Cole tried to arrest 20-year-old Danielle Maudsley at her home for an alleged hit-and-run accident. He handcuffed her, but then she ran out of the house. Cole gave chase and shot her with his Taser.

Maudsley fell to the ground, slamming her head on the pavement. She’s been in a coma ever since and doctors say she is unlikely to wake up.

Cole said he feared that Maudsley would be hit by a car if she ran into the street. He was also afraid that a car could hit him if he tried to tackle her – that’s why he used his Taser, he said.

Following an investigation, it was ruled Cole did nothing wrong.

“The Florida Department of Law Enforcement conducted an independent review. FDLE's investigation found the trooper's actions were legal and within the scope of his duties,” said Sgt. Steve Gaskins.

But Maudsley’s mother does not agree; she is suing the state.

“Tell me that's not excessive force. I'm not saying she was an angel, but she didn't deserve that,” Cheryl Maudsley told the Tampa Bay Times. “He couldn't reach out and grab her? He was an arm's length away. My daughter is dead because of this. She won't come back.”
