An 18-year-old father from Utah has been arrested and charged with child abuse after police say he caused multiple injuries to his 2-month-old daughter on April 27 while watching her for 30 minutes.
Mark Berry, who is from West Haven, Utah, was put in charge of watching his child by the girl's mother. When she returned home about half an hour later, she says she noticed her baby twitching and having a seizure, reports Fox 13.
The woman took her infant to McKay Dee Hospital, where a CT scan revealed she was suffering from bleeding in her brain. She had to be airlifted to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City.
Doctors reportedly discovered the little girl had sustained a serious injury to the back of her brain, as well as several fractures, including fractures to her right leg and left arm.
Berry, who wasn't at the hospital, was later questioned by police and allegedly revealed that he had become frustrated and "forcefully" put his child in a swing twice, reports the Standard Examiner. A statement of probable cause indicated the father "knew his actions would likely cause injury to the child."
The infant remains in the hospital in stable condition, while her father has been booked into the Weber County Jail on suspicion of felony child abuse.
