A U.S. Army soldier stationed in Washington has been charged with the rape of a 12-year-old girl.
Anthony Eloy Perez, 23, had been stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord outside of Tacoma, Washington, when he first got in contact with the victim.
The girl's mother called the police at 11:30 p.m. Sunday to report her daughter missing after receiving a text from one of her daughter's friends that said she was going "to lose her virginity" to someone.
The mother, as well as law enforcement officials, drove around to look for the girl. At around 12:30 a.m., the mother discovered Perez and her daughter in the backseat of a parked car near their house. Shining a flashlight in the back window, she found the two naked under a blanket. She then began to pull her daughter out of the car while attempting to stop the man from fleeing.
"A struggle ensued," said police records," and [the mother] struck the defendant, causing him later to develop a black eye and to have some blood on his face."
When the defendant attempted to drive away in the car, the mother snatched the car keys from him.
After police officers arrived on scene, the defendant admitted he had sex with the girl in the car. He also said that he met the child on KIK, a popular phone messaging app. They had been speaking for a month when the girl told him she was 14.
The victim was taken to an area hospital for examination.
