Police arrested a University of Florida professor after he was accused of secretly recording videos down the blouses and up the skirts of his female students.
Don Samuelson, 65, is a professor of veterinary science at the Gainseville college. He was arrested Friday and charged with video voyeurism, according to an arrest report from the University Police Department.
When confronted by police, Samuelson claimed he was using a pen camera to prove one the young women wasn’t wearing any “undergarments,” which he believed was inappropriate.
According to the arrest report, he is accused of three separate incidents from April to Aug. 30. One of the women became aware that he recorded her with a camera pen on Aug. 30 and reported the incident.
Police uncovered videos of women working in his lab or meeting him in his office, according to WFTV. The pen camera was found with USB drives containing pornography. His face and voice can be heard in some of the videos, police reported.
UF spokeswoman Janine Sikes told The Gainesville Sun on Friday that Samuelson has been placed on leave. She said an investigation into his behavior is ongoing.
“In a situation such as this one with serious allegations, the appropriate action to pursue would be termination,” she added.
According to the The Gainesville Sun, Samuelson confessed to the allegations and said he took the videos for amusement, entertainment, sexual arousal or gratification.
Samuelson has been a teacher for more than 35 years, WFTV reported.
He is being held in lieu of $20,000 bond.
