Illegal Immigrant Arrested For Raping 12-Year-Old Girl

An undocumented immigrant in Texas has been arrested for the sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl who then became pregnant with his child.

The girl's pregnancy was discovered several months after the rape, sparking an investigation, Breitbart reports. The victim told the police that she had only had sex one time, with Jose Alejandro Najarro, who prosecutors claim forced himself on her when she refused to have intercourse with him.

According to an affidavit describing the incident, the alleged sexual assault happened on Nov. 1, 2015. The affidavit stated that Najarro asked the girl to come to his Kyle, Texas, home to fix his television, KXAN reports. When she arrived, Najarro sat next to her on the bed and attempted to kiss her. He then proceeded to ask the girl to touch him, who refused. The victim told police he then removed her clothing and sexually assaulted her.

The girl also told authorities that Najarro tried to entice her to come to his home for months after their first encounter, even offering her money, but that she refused and never returned to his home after the attack.

When the victim later took a pregnancy test at a clinic, she was reported to be four to five months pregnant.

Texas is home to the second largest number of undocumented immigrants in the country, behind California. Although legislators have introduced a number of bills aimed at cracking down on illegal immigration in the state, no major laws to stop the flow of undocumented immigrants have passed, the Texas Tribune reports.

Advocacy groups argue that immigrants are a major factor in Texas' economy, taking jobs in agriculture, construction and the service industry that companies would otherwise have trouble filling. Critics of Texas' immigration policies argue that immigrants cost the state large amounts of money in state services.

Najarro, who was arrested on March 24, faces charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child. He's being held in the Hays County Jail and has been placed on an immigration detainer, Breitbart reports.
