Two Women Charged With Animal Abuse After Allegedly Taping Their Dogs' Mouths Shut (Video)

A Wyoming woman is coming to the defense of a North Carolina woman who reportedly taped her dog’s mouth shut as a form of punishment (video below).

Katharine Lemansky, 45, was arrested in North Carolina for allegedly taping her dog’s mouth shut, Fox 8 reported. She had reportedly posted a picture of her dog with its snout taped shut on Facebook on Nov. 27, with the caption, “This is what happens when you dont shut up!!!”

The photo was shared more than 400,000 times in one day, with several people calling for legal action to be taken against Lemansky. The post was then deleted, and Lemansky wrote a message on Facebook saying, “Dont panic everyone it was only for a minute but hasnt barked since… POINT MADE!!!”

Authorities received several phone calls about Lemansky’s post. She was arrested and charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty, according to a press release.

Attisyn Chadwick, of Wyoming, posted a video on Facebook, defending Lemansky. In the video, she duct taped her dog’s mouth shut to show that the tape could be gently removed, K2TV reported.

Social media responded with the same backlash Lemansky received, and Chadwick posted a public apology for the video on Nov. 30.

Wyoming's Lincoln County Sheriff’s office confirmed that Chadwick would also be charged with animal cruelty.

On Lemansky's case in North Carolina, Cary Police Capt. Randall Rhyne issued the following statement:

“Taping the dog’s muzzle shut was a terrible decision on Ms. Lemansky’s part, and charging her with animal cruelty under North Carolina law was the right thing to do. At the same time, it’s important to also note that our animal control officers who physically examined both Brown and her littermate found the dogs to be very well cared for, which is why we did not and could not remove them from the owner. The dogs are current on their shots, spayed, and microchipped. They are clean and well-nourished and appear to be comfortable in their surroundings. And there were no signs of injury to Brown’s muzzle, not even detectable hair loss.”
