On Sunday afternoon, two Florida teenagers’ attempt at a car theft almost turned into an accidental case of kidnapping.
St. Petersburg police have said that the owners of a Toyota Highlander were unloading tables from their car at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday.
The couple went inside the church for about five minutes, leaving the keys in their SUV.
In that short period of time, two male teenagers jumped into the car and drove off.
Surveillance video, however, shows one of the suspects running from the car moments later, and no surprise: the car they had stolen had a 10-month-old baby strapped into a car seat in the back seat.
The video footage shows one of the teenagers running to a nearby house, the baby girl and her car seat in his arms. He deposited the baby at the house’s front door and fled back to the car.
The owner of the home found the baby, who was unharmed, mere moments after the teens fled the scene.
Five hours later, police found the SUV abandoned in a parking lot.
The teens, however, have yet to be found.
