Leon Walls, a 44-year-old homeless man, went to a Target store in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on March 25, 2013 and grabbed a 16-year-old Allison Meadows from the checkout line. Walls held a knife to her neck and stabbed her.
As Walls assaulted her, another customer ran down the aisle, jumped over the cash register and tackled him. Walls got back up again, stabbed Meadows in the back as her mother tried to pull him way until another man joined the fray. Together, Mike Turner and Roland Smith subdued Walls until police arrived. The men’s actions were captured on video (below) and submitted at Walls' trial on June 3.
Walls has been charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person. Though Meadows suffered from a collapsed lung, she has since recovered.
"It's just been a very mind-blowing experience, the whole thing," Allison’s father, Glen Meadows said. "This whole incident even for people of great faith, it's hard to explain why things like this happen."
