TAMPA — Successful TV pitchman Billy Mays, who sold everything from the Mighty Mendit to the Hercules Hook, was found dead Sunday morning by his wife at the couple's home. According to reports, Tampa police have not issued a cause of death -- but no foul play is suspected at this time.
Mays was 50.
His wife, Deborah Mays, found him unresponsive this morning, according to TMZ. The Medical Examiner's Office will reportedly complete Mays' autopsy by tomorrow afternoon.
Deborah Mays released the following statement: "Although Billy lived a public life, we don't anticipate making any public statements over the next couple of days. Our family asks that you respect our privacy during these difficult times."
Tampabay.com is reporting that Mays was a passenger on Saturday evening's 737 aircraft that took a hard landing at Tampa International Airport. Whether that has anything to do with his death remains to be seen.
