TSA in Salt Lake City Finds Gun Strapped to Man’s Prosthetic Leg

Police in Salt Lake City arrested a man who attempted to make his way through airport security with a loaded gun concealed in his prosthetic leg.

TSA spokeswoman Lorie Dankers says the gun was strapped to the ankle area of man's prosthetic leg, which was inside of a boot. Dankers says the man's ticket was for a flight to Charlotte, N.C.

The Transportation Security Administration says airport police arrested the passenger Thursday night after security detected the weapon - a loaded Jennings .22 caliber pistol.

Officers who conducted a follow-up search discovered the pistol inside the boot. The gun reportedly featured a fully loaded seven-round clip, with another bullet in the chamber.

The incident marks the 19th time this year and third this week that security at the airport detected a passenger carrying on a gun. The airport detected 20 passengers with guns in 2012.

The man’s identity has not yet been released, nor has a potential motive.
