President Donald Trump is on pace to exceed former President Barack Obama's entire presidential travel budget in the next few months.
In his eight-year term as president, Obama and his administration racked up a bill of about $97 million, according to documents obtained by Judicial Watch, a conservative watchdog group. But Trump has already cost taxpayers an estimated $21 million in just his first three months in office, according to CNN.
Nearly all of Trump's travel budget has come from the 21 days he has spent at Mar-a-Lago, his resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
If Trump continues this pace of travel spending, he'll exceed Obama's entire eight-year travel budget before the end of 2017.
However, once the South Florida weather begins to get extremely hot in May, Trump is expected to go to his resort property less often and instead go to his northeast properties, including Trump Tower in Manhattan and his golf property in Bedminster Township, New Jersey.
Trump has often been photographed playing golf at his Palm Beach property. And according to the New York Times, he has so far spent 17 days on the greens during the first 12 weeks of his presidency, which is by far more than any of his three predecessors.
Obama and George W. Bush didn't hit the golf courses at all during their first 12 weeks, and Bill Clinton golfed three days.
But before he became president, Trump was a vociferous critic of the amount of time Obama spent playing golf and the cost for taxpayers.
"Can you believe that, with all of the problems and difficulties facing the U.S., President Obama spent the day playing golf," Trump tweeted on Oct. 13, 2014.
The next day, Trump appeared to be still angry about Obama's tee time.
"We pay for Obama's travel so he can fundraise millions so Democrats can run on lies. Then we pay for his golf," Trump tweeted on Oct. 14, 2014.
And although most of Trump's tweets about Obama's golf-playing were critical, he did suggest a golf course for the former president.
"Obama vacationing in West Palm Beach starting tomorrow. He should play a round at Trump Int'l Golf Club - #1 rated course in Florida," Trump wrote on Feb. 14, 2013.
He also suggested golf as a way to solve political issues.
"Obama should play golf with Republicans & opponents rather than his small group of friends. That way maybe the terrible gridlock would end," Trump wrote on Sep. 19, 2012.
