President Donald Trump's tweets appear to be in response to Fox News segments, suggesting the leader of the free world is watching cable news and tweeting his thoughts (video below).
CNN pointed out that at 5:50 a.m. EST on Jan. 26, Fox News aired a segment about whistleblower Chelsea Manning with an on-screen graphic that read, "Ungrateful Traitor." Some of her former officers in the military complained that that former President Barack Obama was weak on foreign policy.
"Ungrateful TRAITOR Chelsea Manning, who should never have been released from prison, is now calling President Obama a weak leader," Trump tweeted only 14 minutes later. "Terrible!"
Manning says that Obama's "legacy" is exactly what happens when America isn't bold enough, and called for a leader who isn't afraid of actual, real change.
Shortly after a Fox News segment about violence in Chicago that included these statistics: "228 shootings in 2017 (up 5.5% from last year" and "42 homicides in 2017 (up 24% from last year)," Trump tweeted regarding violence in Chicago.
"If Chicago doesn't fix the horrible 'carnage' going on, 228 shootings in 2017 with 42 killings (up 24% from 2016), I will send in the Feds!" he wrote, according to CNN.
Trump also praised Fox News' coverage in an interview with ABC News, seen in the video below, for more favorable reporting in regards to reports of crowd sizes at his inauguration and his subsequent speech at CIA headquarters, which was roundly criticized by many mainstream media pundits.
"Turn on Fox and see how it was covered," Trump told ABC. "That speech was a home run. That speech, if you look at Fox, OK, I'll mention you - we see what Fox said. They said it was one of the great speeches."
Trump said other networks, including ABC News, covered "very inaccurately."
Trump's repeated references to Fox News invited some sharp criticism from Intercept reporter Glenn Greenwald.
"People claim Putin is Trump's puppet master but it appears that role is actually occupied by Fox & Friends," Greenwald tweeted.
According to anonymous sources who spoke to Politico, Trump gets bored with some of his presidential duties and prefers to just watch TV.
