'A True Hero': Bus Driver Helps Save Kidnapped 3-Year-Old Boy (Video)

A California bus driver helped rescue a young boy who was kidnapped at a library in East Bay.

Police are calling VTA bus driver Tim Watson a true hero.

The bus driver was told to be on the lookout for a 3-year-old boy who was abducted at the Milpitas Public Library at around 10:40 a.m. Friday.

Watson noticed a crying boy with a man who fit the description he was given, so he pulled over and pretended to look for a lost backpack, KGO reported.

"What I'm really trying to do is to get up without him knowing to look at the little boy,” Watson told the news station (shown below). “So sure enough, I see the plaid shorts and red shoes. That's what really stuck out in my mind.”

The quick-thinking bus driver radioed the authorities. The suspect got off the bus with the boy at Fremont BART station, where police were already on the scene and arrested him.

"So I open my door one slowly, giving them time to get prepped and ready to go,” said Watson, adding that he and his colleagues are trained to handle situations just like this. “I open up door two, the gentleman walks out calm, cool, collected as can be and they take him down on the spot."

The the 3-year-old child was reunited with his parents at Milpitas police headquarters. Watson said it was a very emotional reunion.

"And that's when my own kids came to mind and I just broke down,” he explained. “I couldn't hold myself down. I just had to go inside the bus and reflect.”

The parents of the would-be victim were too shaken up to speak with the media but they did say they were thankful to the police and bus driver who helped save their boy.

The suspect was identified as 23-year-old Alfonso David Edington of Pittsburgh.

Police said Edington has no connection to the family and the motive behind the crime is unknown at this time.

The suspect has yet to be charged but a full investigation is underway.
