Driving the wrong way on a road or highway usually results in a tragic and often fatal accident. Now Toyota is doing something about it.
According to a report from Device Magazine, starting on June 1, Toyota will start offering an on-board navigation system that will also include a warning system to alert drivers if they are on the wrong side of the road.
It includes a voice-alert that will say: "You may be traveling against the flow of traffic. Please check your direction of travel." At the same time, the screen will flash, "Warning! Wrong Way!"
In addition to using GPS, there will be sensors on the cars to determine which way the traffic is flowing.
Toyota said it will be helpful at toll gates and service area ramps where drivers sometimes get confused about which way traffic is going.
Right now the technology is only being offered in cars sold in Japan.
