Thousands have signed a petition calling for Hunter College to fire the husband of the man who confronted Ivanka Trump on a JetBlue flight.
Matthew Lasner and his husband, Dan Goldstein, were removed from a flight when Goldstein reportedly yelled at Ivanka after seeing her on the plane, telling her that her father, President-elect Donald Trump, was "ruining the country" and asking her why she was not flying on a private jet, according to Daily Mail.
Lasner, who teaches at Hunter College, is now the subject of a petition, which more than 15,000 people have signed, calling for his termination from the university.
"Someone like Mr Lasner, who would harass a mother and her child simply trying to go about their day, does not deserve the honor of teaching," wrote Right Wing Millennials, the group that authored the petition. "The fact that he tried to cover up and change the story around to avoid the consequences of his actions is also a testament to his character. He is NOT a good example for our youth."
Laser reportedly tweeted that his husband was "chasing down" Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner, "to harass them" before the tweet was deleted. An hour later, he tweeted that his husband had "expressed his displeasure in a calm tone," adding that "JetBlue staff overheard, and they kicked us off."
Lasner focuses on "the history and theory of the U.S. built environment, with particular focus on housing, and the relationship between housing patterns and urban and suburban form," according to his bio on Hunter's website.
Lasner has previously posted on social media about his disappointment with Trump's election, posting a video of himself marching in an anti-Trump protest in Chicago, using the hashtag "#notmypresident."
"We believe his immature and cruel harassment of Ivanka Trump and her family at JFK airport should be met with disciplinary action," the petition reads. "We are petitioning that Hunter College take ACTION."
