A Georgia man is lucky to be alive after he got into a catastrophic motorcycle crash that left him in a coma, just seven months into his marriage.

Doctors told Matt Davis’ wife, Danielle, of Savannah, Georgia, that it was time to “pull the plug” on her husband’s life-support equipment. But Danielle refused to give up on her husband.

“I knew that God could get us through that,” she told WTOC in an interview. “I didn’t think it was too big for God.”

In July of 2011, Matt crashed into an illegally parked vehicle in a merge lane while attempting to get onto Interstate 16 in Savannah.

He was taken to a local hospital and suffered a broken femur, ribs, clavicle, jaw and skull, with a lacerated liver and traumatic brain injury, The Marietta Daily Journal reports.

After spending three months in a coma, Danielle moved Matt from the hospital to her mother’s home in North Carolina where she and her mother cared for him. Then, one day, something miraculous happened.

Matt eventually snapped out of his coma and said, “I’m trying.” He had a difficult time remembering the last three years, but as soon as he laid eyes on Danielle, he knew it was a wonderful moment.

“I saw her, and I was like, ‘Yeah!’” he told WTOC.

Danielle stated on their GoFundMe page that Matt continues to make some amazing progress since the incident, and he wants to be able help the woman who never lost faith in him.

“One conversation with Matt will change your life,” Danielle writes. “He has a servant’s heart and a love for people. He never complains or feels anger about his circumstance. He just wants to make a difference and give hope.”
