Baby Of High School Sweethearts Killed In Crash

An allegedly intoxicated New York driver crashed into another vehicle and killed the first-born baby of high school sweethearts.

Kirsten Foisia-Burgman, 20, and Dakota “Kota” Potter, 18, dated in high school and welcomed their son, Kasey, into the world in March, reports

The family was driving back home on April 9 after visiting relatives when their car was hit by another driver who was under the influence of drugs and alcohol, according to New York State Police. The crash occurred at around 1 a.m. in the town of Fleming, Cayuga County, 12 miles from the couple’s home.

Raymond Campagna Jr., 37, veered into approaching traffic, says Detective Lt. Brian Schenck. His car struck the pickup truck Potter was driving.

Potter came out unscathed while Foisia-Burgman and Kasey were taken to hospital for injuries.

"Kirsten remains in the hospital undergoing surgery and treatment for injuries sustained," according to a GoFundMe page set up to raise money for the couple’s bills, medical expenses, travel costs and funeral expenses.

Unfortunately, Kasey’s injuries were so severe he died at the hospital. Campagna Jr. was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. He was also ticketed for failure to keep right, according to

Potter and Foisia-Burgman began their relationship at Southern Cayuga High School and graduated in 2015. Potter is employed at Shingle Valley Excavation and is a volunteer firefighter, but will be out of work to care for Foisia-Burgman.

"Kasey was the apple of their eye and their everything," according to the GoFundMe page. "They will never be able to hold their baby again or teach him life's lessons, all because someone chose to drive under the influence."

An update on the pair’s GoFundMe site says they surpassed their goal of $5,000: “It is so overwhelming and amazing that we reached our goal! Thank you for all the support, prayers and kind words! We will be leaving the page up for a while for people who would still like to donate or share their thoughts. Thanks again for all the love!”
