Tharell Edward, 3, Survives Vicious Pit Bull Attack, Then Shot in Head at Home

A beautiful three-year-old boy — who recently survived a horrific Pit bull attack by his mother’s boyfriend’s dog — is now again fighting for his life after someone shot him in the head on August 23, while he slept in a second-floor apartment in Brooklyn.

Little Tharrell Edward, who was born prematurely, according to the New York Daily News, has had more than his share of tragedy. Since being attacked by the Pit Bull two months ago, the toddler has had to wear a colostomy bag due to the severity of the bites.

The shooting at the apartment on 21st Street in Ditmas Park, occurred around 3:30 a.m. His live-in baby-sitter was with an unidentified 22-year-old male, who is her friend, according to police, when a bullet shot straight through Tharell’s head, soaking his crib in blood. The bullet apparently entered the left side of Tharell’s head while he slept, according to police.

No weapon was immediately recovered at the scene, but authorities reportedly obtained a warrant to search the premises.

ABC News reported there was a possibility that the bullet was a stray round that came through a window, but New York police say they believe the shot may have been fired by adults arguing inside the apartment. They took the 22-year-old man into custody for questioning at the 70th Precinct, according to the New York Post.

Tharell was rushed to New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Hospital and was in critical, but stable, condition, at last report.

After he came into the world as a preemie, Tharell’s mother, Nichelle Edward, 40, has not been a stable part of his life, family friend Jacintha Fleming told the New York Post. His father is out of the picture, she added.

Then he was badly bitten two months ago by a Pit Bull that belonged to his mother’s boyfriend, she said.

“I hope they take that child away. He’s not safe. She needs to be a better mother. He’s supposed to be safe in his own home,” said Fleming, who lives in the building where Tharel was shot.

“He’s overcome a lot but I think it’s time for her to get into trouble...I’m not sorry for her. I’m sorry for the baby,” she said.

A three-year-old Michigan boy fatally shot himself after he found his father's gun in an unsecured location in a bedroom closet last Sunday.

Aother three-year-old was fatally shot in Georgia, while he was in the driveway of his home in Lilburn, Ga.. Investigators believe a family dispute resulted in shots being fired, and that the alleged shooter was a family member who intended to hit another relative, not the child.
