Texas Police Look for Pilot of Crashed Plane Filled with Marijuana

Police in Texas are looking for the pilot who abandoned his airplane after it skidded off the runway during a takeoff attempt. He likely ran from the crash because the plane was filled with marijuana.

The small plane was trying to take off from Houston Executive Airport in Brookshire, Texas Monday night when it skidded onto the grass along the runway. It seems the plane had a broken or missing nose gear.

When police arrived shortly after the crash they found the cockpit empty, but a "large amount" of marijuana inside.

"You could certainly classify it as a lot more than just personal use," John Kremmer, chief deputy of the Waller County Sheriff's Department, told The Associated Press.

Witnesses report seeing one person, possibly more, running away from the scene. Kremmer said the plane is registered to a Texas man, and that it was not reported stolen.

"We have no idea who the pilot was or where it came from," Kremmer said.
