Texas Girl, 14, Issues Parking Ticket To Cop After He Parks In Fire Lane

A Texas police officer was issued a parking ticket last week after he parked in a fire lane.

Annie James, 14, gave out the ticket to a Baytown cop after he parked on the curb at her apartment complex.

“He was parked on the side of the building,” James told KPRC. “It said it was a fire lane all the way around.”

According to CNN, the area is visibly marked.

“I came to get my car and I saw a piece of paper on my windshield,” Officer Tommy King said. “I took it off, read it and started laughing.”

The note said that Officer King was in violation for parking in a fire lane, parking on a curb and backing into a spot. James also asked the Baytown officer to pay $10 to the complex manager, but he had something else in store for the 14-year-old girl.

“He gave me a $40 gift card to Toys ‘R’ Us,” James said. “I was excited, really excited.”

The note was all in good fun, Annie said, but Officer King appreciated that she took action.

“I would say the lesson is not to be afraid of law enforcement, we’re here to help,” he told KPRC. “From the officer’s side of things, we learn not to take ourselves so seriously. There’s a lot of responsibility and power that comes with a badge but every once in a while we can step back and say, ‘You know what, a lot of these people we're protecting, not everyone is a bad guy.’”
