Texas City Council Member Stands By Racist Remarks (Video)

In La Marque City, Texas, a city council member is refusing to apologize or resign for her racist remarks that were caught on tape.

La Marque City Council member Connie Trube listened to residents call for her resignation yesterday, but held steadfast to her controversial comments.

According to Local 2 News (video below), the racist remarks occurred during a conversation between Trube and the husband of a political opponent about the local school district.

"It's not going to get any better until you get those blacks off the school board," Trube states on the audio recording. "She really turned black. She got on the school board with the rest of the blacks and they all just ganged up and that's why the school system has gone to hell."

After Monday's city council meeting, Trube told Local 2 News, "What is on the tape is nothing more than me stating my honest opinion and I don't back down from that. I never denied what was on the tape."

La Marque Mayor Bobby Hocking countered, "Racism will not be tolerated on any level in the city of La Marque."

The city council censured Trube and is paying for an investigation with taxpayer dollars.

As part of the investigation, the Combined Law Enforcement Association and the La Marque police association gave copies of the racist audio recording to the U.S. Department of Justice, notes

However, some residents do not want their tax dollars being spent on investigating the racist comments.
