Texas Boy Donates His Piggy Bank Savings After Local Mosque Is Defaced With Feces

A 7-year-old Texas boy reportedly donated the contents of his piggy bank to a local mosque after it was defaced with feces and ripped pages of the Koran on Nov. 16.

When Jack Swanson, 7, and his mother Laura Swanson drove past the ruined mosque, Laura explained to her son that the assault was a reaction to the Paris terror attacks that occurred on Nov. 13, KXAN reports.

“We were talking in the car how someone smeared poop on their church and that was a really, really awful thing to do and we had a good conversation what churches are for and how everybody’s churches are important,” Laura told the news station. “I think it’s really good to get kids involved and to let them know what the important stuff really is.”

That’s when Jack told his mother that he wanted to cash in the coins in his piggy bank and donate it to the mosque. Faisal Naeem, a board member of the Islamic Center of Pflugerville, said he was touched by the gesture.

“It’s 20 bucks, but coming from Jack collecting his pennies it’s worth 20 million bucks to me and to our community,” Naeem said.

Naeem added that he has a son that same age, and he understands the donation was a big deal for Jack. He also said that the donation gives him hope because it means “it’s not one versus the other.”

Naeem said that if the person who defaced the church comes forward, he would like to welcome them with open arms and have a conversation with them. He insisted that the mosque is not connected to the events in Paris or the Middle East.

"It's become so commonplace where something goes wrong somewhere and people want to blame all Muslims," he added to ABC News. "If anything, it's a pointing indictment of the logical fallacy in our society's way of thinking."

Laura told KXAN that it doesn’t matter what or who you believe in -- all faith is important.
