Two teenage boys were caught scoping out the wallet of a nine-year-old girl at the Jaquez Mini Market in East Germantown, Pa by a surveillance camera. After she left the store, the boys robbed her of $13 in cash.
Following the theft, police sent out a news release that began: "The Philadelphia Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in identifying the suspects. . . ." The release was accompanied by clips from a security camera.
The video posted to social media sites and was quickly viewed hundreds of times on YouTube, reports Philly.com. By Saturday evening it had been viewed 1,100 times. Unfortunately for him, the mother of one of the boys in the video recognized her son. She turned her son in at the 14th Police District's headquarters. The second boy’s parents called the station soon after and turned in their son. The boys, one 14 and the other 13, were interviewed and charged with robbery and related offenses.
They were released into the care of their parents after being charged. Since they are minors, the police did not release their names.
