13-year-old Jaden Ramos took to Facebook to mourn his father, NYPD officer Rafael Ramos, who was gunned down along with his partner yesterday in Brooklyn.
Ramos and his partner, Wenjian Liu, were sitting in their car when they were ambushed and fatally shot by 28-year-old Ismaaiyl Brinsley, who then fled the scene and ultimately took his own life.
Brinsley had made his plan to murder New York officers known earlier in the day via an Instagram post, and the NYPD was alerted of Brinsley’s presence in Brooklyn by Baltimore police just five minutes before the killing occurred.
“This is the worst day of my life,” officer Ramos’ son expressed on Facebook after he learned of his father’s brutal murder.
Jaden’s page included a number of emotional tributes to his dad, whom he called “the best father I could ask for.”
“Today I had to say bye to my father,” Jaden’s post read. “He was their for me everyday of my life, he was the best father I could ask for. It's horrible that someone gets shot dead just for being a police officer. Everyone says they hate cops but they are the people that they call for help. I will always love you and I will never forget you. RIP Dad.”
The teen’s page also revealed that he had just celebrated his father’s 40th birthday on Dec. 9. He posted a photo of the two of them together, with a heartwarming caption alongside it.
“Happy birthday to the best dad in the world, you are always there for me even when it's almost impossible,” the caption read. “We have so many good times it's not even funny, I love you so much."
According to the New York Daily News, Ramos’ family has been “left reeling” from their loss. The officer’s wife told authorities that she “felt like a piece of her had died.”
Officer Ramos had two years with the NYPD, and his partner Liu, a newlywed of only two months, was a seven-year veteran of the Department.
