A 3-year-old boy in Clay County, Texas, was shot in the head by his stepfather for jumping on the bed.
On May 17, a 911 call from a trailer park said a 3-year-old child had been shot in the head and was believed to be dead, KDFX reports.
Witnesses initially told police the child, Dominic Castro, was jumping on a bed where a gun was located, which caused it to accidentally discharge, The Dallas Morning News reports.
It was revealed later that Dominic’s stepfather, George Coty Wayman, 18, pointed the gun at the boy and told him if he did not stop jumping on the bed, then he would shoot him, officials said.
He then fired the gun at Dominic, striking him in the back of the head, according to the arrest warrant affidavit.
Dominic died the morning of May 18 in a Wichita Falls hospital.
His mother is reportedly staying at a nearby home, according to KDFX. His biological father has been in prison since 2014 and was denied parole in January.
Wayman was arrested and charged with capital murder and criminal trespass.
