A 17-year-old boy in Tulsa, Oklahoma, has been arrested for sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl -- and the excuse he gave for committing the crime is deeply disturbing.
According to KOTV, 17-year-old Lynell Hall was arrested and charged with first-degree rape in connection with the sexual assault.
The assault took place on Aug. 2, 2015, in a semi-abandoned apartment in Tulsa. Local police say the apartment is a popular place for teens to "hook up."
According to Tulsa Police Sgt. Mike Brown, the victim was at her cousin's apartment in the same complex when she came into contact with Hall.
"It appears as though the victim was at her cousin's home, and the cousin had some older friends that had come over as well," Brown said.
Police say the victim knew of her cousin's older friends, but had never been around them before.
A police affidavit says that a witness told police that Hall knew the victim was 8 years old and targeted her regardless.
"It was clear that he understood that the child was not of an appropriate age and he attempted to minimize the crime initially before finally admitting that he had actually done what he was accused of," said Brown.
The affidavit said that Hall admitted to having sexual contact with the child, but that he stopped when she told him to "get off her." However, the victim told police that he did not stop when she asked him to.
Hall later admitted to having sexual contact with the girl, adding that she had been "asking for it the whole night," according to the affidavit.
Court documents reveal that there is evidence of a break-in at the apartment in which the girl said the rape happened.
According to KRMG, police were notified of the attack after the victim revealed to a relative what had happened. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where a sexual assault examination was performed. The findings were consistent with being raped, the affidavit states.
Oklahoma state law says that if a 16- or 17-year-old is charged with first-degree rape, they can be tried as an adult. Brown said that Hall qualifies.
Readers shared their thoughts in the comments on KOTV's website.
"He is considered an adult especially for the severity of the crime and will be prosecuted as such," one reader commented. "Jail is too good for this piece of trash as I believe in an eye-for-an-eye mentality. Jail and prison will get him what he deserves."
"Really? You mean he couldn't tell an 8 yr old was not anywhere near his age without having been told beforehand? He is a pedophile, pain and simple, and should be put away for life," another user wrote.
