Teen Shoots And Kills Abusive Father (Photos)

An Ohio teenager has been charged with murder for killing her abusive father.

Police were called to a Cleveland home on July 28 in response to a shooting. Brandi Meadows told authorities her 14-year-old daughter, Bresha, shot and killed her husband, Jonathan Meadows, WKBN reported.

Jonathan Meadows later died from a single gunshot wound to the head. Trumbull County Coroner Dr. Humphrey Germaniuk ruled the death a homicide.

But after speaking with Bresha’s aunt, Sheri Latessa, it was revealed that Jonathan had a history of domestic abuse. Latessa said the teen told Brandi, “Now mommy, you’re free,” after the shooting.

According to court documents, Jonathan was accused of threatening to kill Brandi and their three children in 2011. Authorities were called to the home to investigate.

“Possessive and abusive. He controlled her, and it was like she was in jail -- 18 years worth of jail,” Latessa told WKBN.

Police reports also show that Bresha had attempted to run away. She was found by police in May and the teenager said she lived in constant fear for her life.

“They’ve all been through it, and nobody in that county would help, that we called, would do anything,” Latessa explained. “She told on him, and nobody would do anything. She did what supposed to do, and nobody helped her.”

Jonathan was never convicted for domestic abuse. Brandi had dropped the 2011 domestic abuse charges against him, court records show.

The family said they knew about the abuse, but do not know what triggered Bresha to shoot her father.

“[Bresha] did it for her mother,” Latessa said. “She definitely did it for her mother.”

Bresha is now facing aggravated murder charges. She turns 15 in two weeks.

“I am so sorry she had to go through this,” Brandi told WJW. “She is my hero. She helped me; she helped all of us so we could have a better life.”

The gun used in the shooting was registered under Brandi’s name because Jonathan was a convicted felon and could not possess a weapon.
