Teen Invites 3 People Over, 300 Show Up and Vandalize Home

A teen invited three friends to her house when her mother was out, but 300 people showed up and destroyed the home.

The girl, from Aptos Hills, Calif., wanted to have a relaxing night with a couple of friends, watching movies and baking. But word got out that her mother was gone, and soon a Facebook invite prompted hundreds of teens to come by.

Once they were there, they destroyed furniture, smashed lights and cost the homeowners tens of thousands of dollars in damage.

After the girl escaped the party with the family dog, she called 911. Police arrived and arrested an 18-year-old on suspicion of possession of drugs and a firearm.

One person at the party allegedly announced that the home was his and that everyone could take what they wanted.

"it was an out of control, outrageous house party that the attendees, I believe, vandalized and gave out the party giver's address," Sgt. Christine Swannack said.

The homeowner, who has asked to remain anonymous, said, "It was an out of hand mob crime scene. That's what it was. What we were calling it."

When police pulled over one teen, they found marijuana, drug paraphernalia, stolen jewelry, a stolen rifle, stolen shotgun and other stolen items in his car.

He was taken to Santa Cruz County Juvenile Hall.

No other arrests have been made, and the 16-year-old girl who held the party was cited.

"They need to be responsible," the homeowner said. "If they see someone's house getting torn up, are you just gonna stand by and watch? No. You need to take some responsibility."
