A 14-year-old girl is facing charges of reckless conduct causing injury and assault for repeatedly punching an 18-year-old man who has cerebral palsy and Down syndrome on camera (video below).
“Apparently the male was being verbally aggressive. (The girl) was unaware it was being filmed,” Pakenham Police Acting Sergeant Marcus Coolen told the Daily Mail.
The video appeared on LiveLeak and was later posted to a vigilante justice page on Facebook called Most Wanted, where it sparked outrage, The Sun reported.
The teen, who has not been identified, later defended herself on social media. “First of all he was threatening me and my closest friends saying he was going to hit us and he actually raised his fist to me,” she wrote. “Second of all everyone that was there wanted to do it but didn't have the balls to.”
She later added: “Yes it was wrong and I know that, but he brought it on himself by threatening me. Of course I was going to stick up for myself wasn't going to stand there and be spoken to like that or threatened like that.”
Still, she apologized, saying she felt “low” and that she would take it back if she could.
