Eighth-Grade Boy Forced To Remove Costume After Dressing As Elsa For Disney-Themed Spirit Day (Video)

A California eighth-grader is speaking out after his school’s principal forced him to remove the Elsa costume he wore for the school’s Disney-themed spirit day.

Austin Lacey, 13, said that he just wanted to have some fun when he decided to dress as Princess Elsa from Disney’s ‘Frozen’ for his middle school’s spirit day.

The costume, which featured a blonde braided wig and a sparkling blue dress, was a hit with the rest of Austin’s class. He was asked to pose for selfies all throughout the day. However, one person who did not appreciate the costume was the school’s principal.

“He told me it attracted too much attention,” the eighth-grader told KTLA. “I never expected what happened today to happen. I wore it for fun because I’m just one of those people, I like to go all out.”

According to Austin’s mother, Brooke Francev, the principal at Ethan Chase Middle School ordered the school’s campus instructor to take away her son’s dress and wig. She said the principal does not believe that boys should dress like girls.

“I can’t believe there are still people out there that hold those beliefs, especially on a day when it was all intended on good fun,” Francev told KTLA. “It really shouldn’t have been an issue.”
