Teen Boy Beats Up Girl On Bus, Photos Reveal Extent Of Damage (Photos)

A 17-year-old high school student has turned himself in to the police after surveillance showed him allegedly hitting a 5-year-old girl on a school bus.

The teen appeared at a bail hearing Aug. 30 and was granted bail of $1,000, according to WRDW.

The alleged assault occurred on the bus traveling from school to the after-school program on Aug. 29 in Bamberg, South Carolina.

The parents of the 5-year-old girl, named as Jasmine, were angered that no one from the school called them about the incident.

“I’m very upset! I’m mad,” said Terry Peters, WRDW reported.

Peters said he noticed a mark on Jasmine’s face when she returned home.

Peters described what the surveillance video showed.

“He had reached over that seat and telling another girl if you don't hit her then I'm going to hit her for you,” Peters added.

The teen was then seen grabbing the student’s hand and using it to strike Jasmine.

School officials and police are unsure whether the 17-year-old is responsible for the mark, because it is on the left side of Jasmine’s face. She was struck on the right side of her face in the video.

Phyllis Schwarting, superintendent for Bamberg District One, said it was normal for older students to travel on the same bus as younger ones in rural areas.

“The behavior on the bus was not abnormal,” Schwarting added.

“We are talking about a kid who is 17 years old much larger than this 5-year-old child [and has a] history of violence and he is put on the bus with her in close proximity,” said the Peters' attorney, Charlie Williams.

The previous trouble the teen was allegedly involved in is not known publicly because he is a minor.

Peters is concerned about the ongoing threat.

“It could happen to anybody it could happen to anybody's child and had I not seen that slap on her face then I would not have known about what that video is showing today,” he said.

The teen faces a third-degree assault charge and his school principal is reportedly pushing for him to be expelled from school.

He will appear in court again Sept. 26.
