An 18-year-old man from Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, has been arrested for allegedly raping his 5-year-old relative and infecting her with a sexually transmitted disease.
Luis Arevelo is being charged with rape of a child, indecent sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child and other counts after his young relative was diagnosed by doctors with chlamydia, which can cause permanent damage to her reproductive organs, reports the Daily Mail.
Police were called to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and, upon interviewing the child’s mother, she reportedly admitted her daughter had previously come to her and said that Arevelo “stuck his pee pee in her private parts.” The child’s mother was reportedly “uncooperative” at first, reports NBC 10.
Arevelo, who was born in Ecuador and is living legally in Upper Darby, reportedly denied raping the child in her bedroom, but admitted that he has an STD. He is being held at the Delaware County Prison on $250,000 bail and will reportedly be taken into custody by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The suspect reportedly told police that he would like to serve his prison sentence in Ecuador.
The child’s mother has not been charged with a crime.
“I guess the best way for me to describe this guy is an animal,” said Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood.
An investigation is ongoing.
