Teen Accidentally Shot While Playing Zombie Game

Three teenagers playing what they described as a 'zombie game' apparently did not realize they were taking turns pointing a loaded gun at each other.

The teens were aiming several weapons at one another when one boy pulled the trigger, according to Sebastian County Police. One 16-year-old teen was shot in the shoulder and taken to the hospital where he is in stable condition.

“It would appear like everything is OK when guns are in play, but guns are serious business and the only way we can address that is to be serious about that ourselves and certainly about our children’s safety,” said Philip Pevehouse, spokesman for the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Department.

Originally, the injured teen had been pointing an empty bow at friends. Then one of the other teens went into his mother’s nightstand and retrieved a .40-caliber handgun, which his mother loaded earlier that morning.

Pevehouse warned parents to keep guns locked up, not to keep a loaded gun in the house and talk to kids about guns.

Police believe the incident was accidental and no charges have been filed.
