A British court in Essex heard that Temidayo Joseph, 16, might have accidentally hanged himself just to see how Robin Williams died.
Joseph was described as a “lively and popular” student and a talented soccer player, Mirror reported.
Essex Coroner Eleanor McGann testified at the inquest, saying: “There was a conversation which took place about big news in the media about the death of Robin Williams … Temi had said, ‘I don’t understand why somebody would do this to themself.’
“I do wonder if this bright, little boy ... perhaps he was just experimenting to see how Robin Williams killed himself, but with no intention of doing it himself.
“We know it’s incredibly easy to hang yourself from a sitting position. It’s perfectly possible that he did not have any idea how easy it is to hang yourself by mistake.”
Joseph’s suicide was described as out of character.
Detective Sergeant Tara Barnes said, “I had no information that his intention was to kill himself.”
Joseph committed suicide on Aug. 21, 2014, just hours after he received the results of a major school exam. The coroner concluded Joseph’s death was not linked to his academic performance.
