Ted Nugent, rock musician and board member of the NRA, posted an anti-Semitic image to Facebook on Feb. 8, getting the attention of the Anti-Defamation League.
The image of 12 prominent Jewish people with Israeli flags next to their faces includes the question, “So who is really behind gun control?”
"Know these punks," Nugent wrote in the posting. "They hate freedom, they hate good over evil, they would deny us the basic human right to self defense & to KEEP & BEAR ARMS while many of them have tax paid hired ARMED security! Know them well. Tell every1 you know how evil they are. Let us raise maximum hell to shut them down!"
Those pictured included former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg; Democratic Sens. Chuck Schumer of New York, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein of California; former Democratic Sen. Carl Levin of Michigan; the late Democratic Sen. Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey; Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel; and Harvard professor Alan Dershowitz.
The photos are labeled with titles such as “Jew York City mayor Mikey Bloomberg” and remarks like “Gave Russian Jew immigrants your tax money,” TIME reports.
According to Media Matters of America, the image previously appeared on Stormfront, a white-supremacy website.
"Ted Nugent has a long history of being an equal opportunity offender," Jonathan A. Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League, said in a press release on the organization's website. "But his latest share on Facebook, making the outrageous suggestion that Jews are behind gun control, is nothing short of conspiratorial anti-Semitism.
"Regardless of one’s views on gun control, this kind of scapegoating of an entire religious group is completely unacceptable and completely divorced from reality."
