A former Michigan Spanish teacher faces hard time for some inappropriate relations with a student.
Kathryn Ronk, 30, has been convicted of having sex with a 15-year-old student. She was sentenced on Tuesday and will face six to 15 years of prison.
Arrested in June, she allegedly had sex with a student from Bishop Foley High School in Madison Heights, Michigan.
"I'm so sorry for the victim and his family," she said to the court, "for the school and the community, my family ... and I'm so sorry for my husband.
"With (psychological) treatment, I'm getting better. I know I have to go away but this is a life-long journey, and I am meeting it," she continued. "I'm so sorry for those who I have hurt."
Though she is spending a good while in prison, she originally was to serve life. Her sentence was brought down to a lesser crime after she pleaded guilty. She will be eligible for parole in five and a half years.
Ronk also faces charges of rape as well as a count of engaging in a sexually abusive relationship with a child at his home. The trial for those charges begins on March 31.
Ronk was visited by law enforcement officials after the victim's parents as well as the principal, Reverend Gerry LeBoeuf, filed a police complaint.
Officials report that she had sex with the child in her classroom during school hours.
Now a sophomore in high school, the victim wrote a statement to reporters about his experience saying, "I might be fine in four years and I might have issues in four years."
