Charges against a Houston drama teacher who married a student he was accused of having a sexual relationship with have been dismissed.
Investigation into Illich Guardiola, 41, started back in April after he was stopped for a traffic violation while the 16-year-old girl was riding in his car.
The teen ended up telling police that she was in love with Guardiola and they were in a relationship, KHOU reports.
But before police arrested Guardiola in May, he had flown the girl to Las Vegas and married her right in front of her mother, KPRC reports.
Authorities discovered text messages between Guardiola and the teenage girl, who was one of his drama students at the Houston Family Arts Center.
“I love having sex with you,” one of the texts allegedly sent by the girl to Guardiola said.
According to KHOU, Guardiola has been cleared of sexually assaulting a child and his attorney said that it was because of the wedding.
But investigators tell the television station that the mother and daughter refused to talk. Other possible victims have anonymously come forward saying they had problems with Guardiola in the past, but never called back.
The Houston Family Arts Center has terminated its contract with Guardiola following the alleged assault.
