Teacher Daniel Reilly Accused of Raping 14-Year-Old Student

A New York teacher is accused of raping a 14-year-old student for seven months, and was also found to have been friends with numerous teen students on Facebook.

Daniel Reilly, 36, was a sixth-grade English teacher at IS 237 in Flushing, N.Y. He is being accused of having sex multiple times with a student at his apartment while his wife and newborn baby girl were away.

Before he shut down his Facebook page, it was found that he had 40 visible friends who were mostly young students from nearby high schools.

Reilly is an ex-marine who had worked for the school for six years.

It was discovered he was having an affair with the young teen after her sister found texts from him on her phone.

Reilly used a code name for her in his phone so his wife wouldn't suspect anything, and also advised the girl to do the same.

His wife, Annemarie, bailed him out of jail on Tuesday and is said to be "supporting her husband."

Documents suggest that Reilly and the girl had sex just days before he was arrested.

It started last August when he began texting her and then invited her to his apartment while his wife was out with the baby.

He is now facing statutory rape charges and faces seven years in jail.

"The defendant planned on keeping the affair secret," the prosecutor said.

When the victim's sister saw the texts, she told her parents, who in turn called police and the school.

Reilly was immediately taken out of class and arrested.

He is said to have no history of problems at the school.

"This case is particularly disturbing," Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said. "Schools should be safe havens for children. Instead, this defendant is accused of sexually preying upon one of his former students and rendezvousing with her at his residence."

School Chancellor Dennis Walcott said, "As I've said before, this is totally unacceptable. We have no tolerance for that. Keep your hands off our students."

In 2000, he was honorably discharged from the Marines.

Reilly was well-liked at the school by his coworkers and students.

Along with being charged for statutory rape, he is also charged with second-degree rape, criminal sexual acts, and endangering the welfare of a child.
