A former school teacher has been charged with criminal sexual conduct and is accused of having an illegal relationship with one of her students.

Jamee Hiatt, 31, of Grass Lake, Michigan, was charged with one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with multiple variables, as well as one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct with an individual at least 13 years of age, but younger than 16.

The arraignment hearing was at Jackson County District Court with Judge R. Darryl Mazur on Jan. 25. She resigned from her teaching position at Leslie's Woodworth Elementary School on Jan. 21.

Hiatt is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with one of her students during the 2013-2014 school year and was arrested on Jan. 22, according to Jackson County Assistant Prosecutor Jennifer Walker.

During the alleged sexual misconduct, Hiatt taught at Leslie Middle School, reports WILX. Hiatt confessed to having sexual intercourse with a boy, who is now 14, on at least five occasions. The boy says the sexual intercourse happened every other day, including at Hiatt's home in Grass Lake.

Hiatt also offered the boy a cellphone, money and "even went so far as filing guardianship over the victim" to continue the relationship, says Walker.

"She stands faced with some serious charges," Walker said.

Hiatt was subdued during her indictment on Jan. 25, answering yes or no to questions and to verify she has two children under the age of 7 and has been married for the past eight years.

The judge barred Hiatt from having any interaction with the victim, as well as from having interaction with any minor, including her children.

Hiatt’s bail is set at $250,000, and a preliminary examination is scheduled for Feb. 11, according to MichiganLive.

Punishment for first-degree sexual criminal conduct could carry up to life in prison, while third-degree criminal sexual conduct carries up to 15 years.
